Who’s who?
Ed Ling (25), lead singer/rhythm guitar; Richard Ridley (25), lead guitar/ backing vocals: Emily Harding (27), bass guitar/backing vocals, Simon Holden (27), keyboards/backing vocals; Joe Goode (30), drums

How did you get together?
Ed: I put the band together after getting a good response from a demo I sent out. I was friends with Rich already, he persuaded Simon to quit his studies in Brighton and join. Then we met Joe and Emily through mutual friends.

Have you been in any other bands?
Emily sang in a covers band called Sahara, then played bass in Ostracoda. Joe has been in a few local bands. Simon played guitar in a couple of Brighton-based bands, Rich played in a band called Bosco, Ed was in a band called Vista then performed as a solo artist

Tell us about some of your most memorable gigs:
We all agree that our gig at the arts centre in August was our best, so we’re looking forward to our next one there on November 18. Our third gig ever, at the Waterfront, was pretty awful, Simon’s keyboard blew up halfway through our second song then it went rapidly downhill from there!

Who are the bands/artists who inspire you – and why?
Ed: Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys have been a big inspiration to me, there are a lot of vocal harmonies in the songs which come from there. Johnny Marr is my favourite guitarist, so a lot of the guitar parts sound a bit like the Smiths. As with a lot of musicians though I’m inspired by all sorts of artists/music, at the moment I’m listening to Stereolab, My Morning Jacket, the Arcade Fire and Nick Drake.

Tell us about your chosen songs:
Blindfolded Lost – We chose this because we usually open our live set with it. It’s got a pounding introduction and a big chorus. There’s vocal harmonies in there as well and with a complete change in direction for the second part of the song it really sums up the band’s sound as a whole. The music is quite tense, which helps convey the theme of being stranded somewhere and feeling lost.

Waiting for the Sunrise – This is probably our most accessible song. There’s a 60s surf guitar feel to the verse and a harmonica solo in the middle which makes it one of our more upbeat tracks. As the title suggests, it’s a song about anticipation and waiting for something good to happen.

What’s been the highlight of your musical career?
Ed: Getting a track played on Radio One’s Evening Session was good, also playing our first gig as a band in April of this year was also a real achievement, despite the fact that we didn’t play that well.

What’s your number one ambition in music?
Apart from the obvious, we’d really like to play at Glastonbury when it returns in 2007.
