Lalia
Who’s who in the band? Angela Wood, 26, guitar/vocals; Ben
Shepherd, 27, bass; Rob Waters, 28, drums.
How did you get together?
Angela conscripted Ben. Rob volunteered.
Have you been in any other bands?
Rob drummed for Phnom Penh and local heroes Evader. Angela played
bass in the most hated band in Cambridge
Your most memorable gigs…?
Playing Trowse Festival at half an hour’s notice and rocking
it. The John Peel Day gig at the Nelson was explosive and astonishingly
cathartic.
What sort of studio work have you done?
Recording a couple of tracks at Mute Studios in London one weekend.
Not that we were supposed to be there, mind. The Jamaican takeaway
opposite is recommended.
Who are the bands/artists that inspire you and why?
…
And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, Auf Der Maur, Black Sabbath,
the Breeders, The Cure, Joy Division, The Pixies, PJ Harvey, Queens
of the Stone Age,
Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sleater-Kinney, The Who… why? For
rocking in their myriad ways.
What’s been the
highlight of your musical career?
Recording our demo was great fun and headlining over Bearsuit at
the Nelson and holding our own was pretty damn good. These are both
eclipsed however, by the fact that we’re still talking to each
other.
What’s your number one ambition in music?
Angela will not rest until she has achieved world domination. Ben
wants every distortion pedal ever made. Rob looks forward to a
day when we can have pyrotechnics on stage.
