Whether you know the county well, or it's your first
encounter with this beautiful corner of England – make
the most of Norfolk this summer.
With
a wealth of countryside on your doorstep, there are
so many reasons to get out and about in Norfolk – so
many places waiting to be discovered.
This is an area rich in rural landscapes which can
be explored on foot or bicycle, on horseback or by car
and there are miles of paths, cycle routes and bridleways
to enjoy.
Norfolk's extensive network of public rights of way
means you can try everything from a short stroll to
a more challenging long distance walk, taking you along
ancient trackways and through parts of the Norfolk countryside
which cannot be appreciated any other way.
You can also get a real feel for this marvellous county
by visiting our many nature reserves, country parks,
commons and picnic areas. These are set in countryside
which can surprise and thrill, even if you already know
Norfolk well.
Rolling
fields and woodland, leafy river valleys, unspoilt villages
(and their pubs!), the unique Broadland waterways and
our stunning coastline are all there waiting for you.
Wildlife enthusiasts won’t be disappointed. Why not
watch seals bask offshore, or enjoy the world-renowned
birdwatching opportunities which Norfolk offers? Our
fens and woods, heaths and hillsides are home to a multitude
of animals and plants, some of which you cannot see
anywhere else. And if you combine your enjoyment of
the countryside with visits to Norfolk’s diverse market
towns, visitor attractions or the medieval city of Norwich,
for example, you will have a feast for the senses which
is hard to beat.
We hope that these pages, produced by Norfolk County
Council, the Countryside Agency and the Eastern Daily
Press, will help you to make the most of Norfolk – it
really is the place to be!
