A ghost researcher says the Old Gaol House in King’s Lynn is haunted. David Wharmby, along with members of the Bassetlaw Ghost Research Group, visited the historic venue on Saturday night , to carry out a series of experiments.

And although the data gathered with the hi-tech equipment is still being analysed, Mr Wharmby said there was no doubt that the former police station was “very haunted”.

Mr Wharmby, a parapsychologist, carried out the experiment along with members of his team, after they were asked to visit the venue.

The 10-strong team, which included mediums, stayed overnight at the gaol house during their investigation.

Mr Wharmby said the evening had proved very eventful.

He said: “We still have a lot of footage to view, but there was definitely a presence there.

“And there were quite a few tests which had been moved, and not by normal means.

“There were a lot of strange noises such as grunting and metal objects being moved, as well as cell doors banging.

“It was very active, and I would say that it was very haunted.”

The ghost hunters, who are based in Nottinghamshire, will now compile a report of their findings and will send it on to the owners of the gaol house.

The team has investigated 300 cases across Britain.

The equipment used by the team takes measurements like electro-magnetic fields, electricity waves, sound and temperature.

The team does not charge for attending a venue, and funding comes from fund-raising and donations.

The ghost hunters want to raise awareness of their work and to help people understand the paranormal better.

They said they did not want anyone who believed they were being haunted to suffer in silence.

Members claim to have captured outstanding events in pictures and on video at a variety of venues from historical venues to public bars.
