Felbrigg Hall, near
Cromer
The gothic library
of Felbrigg Hall is haunted by the ghost of a member of the
Windham Family, who occupied the house for over 200 years.
It is said that when a particular combination of books are
set on the library table , the second William Windham will
appear and browse through the books.

The medieval manor
house of Felbrigg was in the 18th century given a fine Gothic
Library.
The ghost seen there
looking at the books is the second William Windham who inherited
the estate in 1749 and it was he who began the library.
He was a passionate
book-collector who died in 1810, following an attempt to rescue
books from a burning house in London and his peaceful apparition
continues to return to them every now and then.
Windham met his fate through
his love of literature. This member of Pitt the Younger's
Cabinet fell over as he rescued a friend's books from a burning
house.

His injured hip eventually
needed surgery, but Windham died as a result of the operation
in the early 1800s.
Felbrigg Hall administrator
Graham Hicks said: "He was last seen in 1971 by a member
of staff working late one evening in the library who saw the
figure of a man sitting in a chair reading his books."
Windham's favourite read apparently is his collection of books
from Samuel Johnson.
The titles are still
stored in the library, but Mr Hicks said he had never personally
seen the ghost catching up on his reading.
