The first five points form part of
the Nelson
walk
1. Nelson's birthplace - site of the parsonage
2. The Lord Nelson public house. Built in 1650,
originally known as The Plough, renamed in 1807. Where
Nelson gave a farewell dinner before sailing on the
Agamemnon.
3. Church of All Saints. Nelson was Christened
in the existing Purbeck font, his parents are buried
in front of the altar. Inside are displays of Nelson's
life.
4. Manor House farm and moat.
5. Nelson Memorial Hall.
6. Church of St. Mary's.
7. Burnham House, home of Phil Ward, Horatia's
husband.
8. Bolton House, home of Nelson's brother-in-law,
Thomas Bolton, and where Horatia died.
9. The Hoste Arms, Admiral Sir William Hoste
was a protege of Nelson's, going to sea with him in
the Agamemnon. The Inn, then the Pitt Arms, was built
in 1640 and renamed after Hoste 's victory at Lissa
in 1811, when he flew the signal "Remember Nelson".
10. Church House, Nelson's father's "little
town house" where he lived while Nelson and Franny lived
at The Parsonage.
11. Nelson's walk to Gun Hill
12. Gun Hill, where he used to read the newspapers.
