farmers are under pressure. Supermarkets control
the prices and both farmer and consumer lose out.
For every £1 you spend in the supermarket
farmers only get 9p on average.
You can buy meat and vegetables from the other
side of the world in the superstores - but how often
can you find Norfolk produce on their shelves? Why
load up lorries and trek in the food from hundreds
of miles away when we have top-quality products
on our doorstep?
Here at the Eastern Daily Press we know Norfolk-produced
food is the best in the world. And we believe in
supporting our local community.
While other regions struggled under the scourge
of BSE and foot and mouth, Norfolk remained clear.
Our farmers care about their livestock and their
produce and we want to give them a local market
which is easy to use, direct and online.
The consumer, too, will benefit from better-quality,
fresher food bought directly from the producer.
High-quality food, produced, sold and consumed
locally - it's the future of farming.
