Most households in Norfolk now seperate their waste into 2 wheely bins. Waste and Recyclable.
The percentage the council is telling us they're recycling is based on how much they collect from your Recycling wheely bin. This figure is given before the process to seperate the individual items. The council may say for example "We're recycling 25% of Norfolks waste". However, I know for a fact that the present contractor to sort the recyclables, Norfolk Enviromental Waste Services (NEWS) only reuse around half of the recyclables they recieve. Before their Landfill at Costessey was finished, they put most of it in there. Now its full, NEWS are sending the rest to Slough for incineration. I've seen this happen in the 100's of tons per week. So the figure the council give us for !example! 25% is infact a lot! less than that!
this person knows they stuff the % is counted on the in going belt the waste all most flows out at the same rate as it go s in but you dont get told this ive been told some now go to a landfill near holt north norfolk ive once or twice driven up the holt road and its not the sort of road which 44 ton trucks should use all the time so the good people are recycling then its loaded by machine using diesel (fumes)on to big trucks burning about 9 miles to the gallon if they lucky ( more fumes) adding extra damage to the roads on verges which in turn = man & machine to repair then landfilled by big machines making even more fumes.
100 tons per week dont sound like much but thats about 9 truck loads due to the volume 120 cubic yards per truck not weight.
Or this is not the bit people see sorry carry on being green and recycle ???????
