I used to be a strong believer in recycling before it became "trendy" to do so. I also used to walk my cans and glass down to the recycling bins without fail every week.
Then the council gave out the recycling boxes. I put out my stuff for recyling but it is always overflowing so I put it in bags to stop it blowing down the street. Then the council refuses to take it because it is "contamainated" with a carrier bagg. Some of my neighbours still get their recycling taken away whether it is in a box, carrier bag or just laying in the street.
I can only assume then that it actually depends on the individual collecting the recycling materials as to whether the council workers do or don't take it away.
I now totally refuse to take part in this recycling lottery anymore so now all my rubbish goes straight into the wheeley bin (except my organic rubbish which I compost).
I guess it will now have to stay that way until Norwich City Council actually provide a dependable collection service with a decent sized bin. Nice to know I'm paying my council tax for rubbish services.

We can't keep filling the countryside with our waste and it is ridiculas to bury something that can be used again. I agree that the councils haven't quite got it right yet but progress is being made with many areas of Norfolk getting larger bins for recyclables. It seems a shame to stop recycling over a principle.
In the part of the city where I live we have green boxes for recycling and a small dustbin and liner for rubbish.
I have had two recycling boxes since tins and cans can now be collected from our doorsteps. One has tins, cans and bottles, the other holds paper for recycling. I actually recycle more than I throw out (normally I only fill half a black bin liner per week) and it seems ridiculous that we have larger bins for rubbish than recycling! I am fortunate that I only live half a mile away from Mile Cross Recycling depot but this doesn't take plastic recycling - I have to take plastic bottles all the way to Sainsbury's at Queen's Road - approximately a mile and a half away!
I look forward to a greater variety of recycling being available - with more recycling banks for plastic if not doorstep collection.
