Mosquito crash Tilney All Saints 27th Sept 1944

Is there anyone who might remember a Mosquito from 627 squadron crashing in a field at Tilney All Saints around 2.50am on the 27th September 1944? I am trying to piece together the accident for the navigator's widow and would be very grateful for local knowledge or help. Many thanks. Ian.duncan@isgwebb.com

Tony, yes that is the one. Thanks. I have this info, plus a suggestion from the Norfolk civil defence that one of the crew was still alive albeit badly wounded subsequent to the crash. So I am attempting to find any witnesses to either the crash or the aftermath. Thanks for your post though!

As the widow, the lady could retrieve her husbands service records.
Being RAAF, they may have to be obtained through source. maybe here. http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/doc/contacts.asp#servicerecords
Navigator, Fitzpatrick info here. http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/script/veteran.asp?ServiceID=R&VeteranID=1047385
Sorry don't have grid reference, but you could search local papers or local people. request crash report/card.............

Tony. again, thanks. I have the service records but they add nothing. simply show KIA on the night and rough area of kings lynn. However I shall visit the area and hope to maybe find someone still alive who may know something.

Hi Tony,
Have you tried West Norfolk Council? www.west-norfolk.gov.uk I myself work for a local council (not in Norfolk) and our civil defence records are kept in our town hall. It may be the same case with West Norfolk Council and also it might be worth checking out records via their library dept as most council's have a local history section. If this fails to get you further you could always write to The Lynn News, a local news paper which covers the area where you are searching - http://www.kingslynntoday.co.uk they may be able to help or point you in the right direction.
