Re: Get an incinerator

All people think is once its in the green bin it go s to be recycled well not what they think like all firms production figers must look good on paper so a high percentage go s to land fill still (news paper/card/plastic) i did not get this fact off tv or radio as its my work if the incinerator burns the waste at high temp you dont get clouds of smoke.

the waste burnt produces electric for the natnail gride plus all the ash can be used for construction & roads.

SO DONT LAND FILL IT BURN IT !

No you don't get clouds of smoke so you can't see when the really nasty stuff that they can't constantly monitor has slipped out.  Cadmium, lead and all sorts of stuff will pollute Norwich (and it's water supply) to a radius of 17 miles - that's nearly to the coast - and further with a good wind.  Plus - an incinerator HAS to burn at a constant high temperature. In cannnot be turned down if there's not enough to burn so stuff that might be recycled and reused gets sent up the chimney.  Bath Council are managing nearly 50% recycling.  If Norwich were to get it's act together and follow the the Zero Waste concept they signed up to, and get anywhere near this figure then we shall have to import waste from other counties.

There are other methods of disposal that can be more easily regulated.  The reserve bidder for Norwich proposes recycling and an Anaerobic Digester (composter) with MBT treatment for a much smaller amount of residue.  The AD produces methane in an enclosed system which runs generators and the MBT produces more electricity than incineration.  Norfolk County Council seemingly opted for incineration mainly on the grounds of cost in the short term.  However, over a long period (WRG are looking at a 25 year contract) it could cost a lot more.

Super Angry [8o|] Re: Get an incinerator
the ridiculous government targets and stupid rules governing taking waste to the tips (now 'recycling centres' - what a laugh) will only encourage people to fly tip or burn their rubbish, another example of the councils' and government's stupidity over this issue.

Re: Get an incinerator

What do we do with dirty nappies and dog poo bags?  Should they they be recycled, burnt in an incinerator or just buried?

If the EDP article on the 'proposed' WRG incinerator is to be believed you won't need to build your own incinerator.  Just take it down the road to Whittlingham and add it to the heap.  I'm glad I don't live in Cantley.  Wherever the council build the incinerator in Norwich - you'll be downwind of it.

Re: Get an incinerator

If you pick up the doggie do's in toilet paper then put them in the dog poo bag, you can tip the do-do's down the loo when you get home and wash and re-use the bags.

Did you know that some nations don't use nappies at all?  They watch their infants closely for signs of impending dirties and then suspend them over potties til they learn to sit up. Worth a try?

Re: RE: Get an incinerator

It really is stupid. We are encouraged to be green and then told that we have to make several car trips to the tip instead of one. Also, when I go to the tip I frequently take items for my neighbours if I have space in the trailer. I haven't been stopped for the amount of waste yet but what would happen if I did. My nearest tip closed some time ago so I have double the distance to travel and so I try to take as much as possible in one trip.

Norfolk County Council - get real and address all the issues. It's quite easy to check on who is going to the tips and how often. Just take a note of registration numbers. Some years ago Bromley Council supplied a car tax sized certificate of entitlement to all council tax payers. If you didn't have one you had to pay to tip.
