20/10/2009, 2:23 PM nevermind Joined on 28/05/2007 Posts 3,173 Re: The crooks have started I watched todays proceedings, the ritual started at 8.30, at the slowest speed possible. Two weeks into the works and nothing has been done except exclude the preying eyes of the public. Carter is taking us for a ride. They have now closed off half of the street in front of City Hall, it looks like its permament until the works are done, nothing to do with 'can't get a crane in,' they want to use the pavement for storage of materials. Off course the motorbike parking spaces have been commandeered for the period of the sloth working, as for any work in the City centre, mayor or petty. A crane will be necessarry for moving the stones off and for bringing them back, but not permanently, so why do they need the half of the road shut I don't know. nevermind    Report

I have just sent them a notice but I am not sure that they can do anything about the positioning and updating of the webcams.  keep trying. nevermind    Report

The City is blocked up, workers are nowhere to be seen, fences have been erected and containers put up, that took a few days, maybe three, so the rest of the time, no work has taken place anybody should get paid for. The camera was stuck yesterday and is running on summer time, it does not change the pictures every five minutes, its more like ten minutes, but after ringing them up it works again.   My personal views is that Carters should do this job for nothing, and they should make sure its of the highest quality, after all they had us over a barrel for so long and overcharged on previous jobs, so a little charity for Christmas would get them back into the good books. nevermind      Report

03/11/2009, 10:13 AM nevermind Joined on 28/05/2007 Posts 3,173 Re: The crooks have started One month into start of the work and nothing has been achieved, bar fencing everything off, the traffic is inconvenienced so the crane can make its appearance, but nothing has happened. If this would have been a German builder in charge, the building process would have been in phase two, ie. the site would have been cleared, the cellar made safe and a steelconstruction holding the 'restored' memorial would be put together by now.   What we are being subjected to is stalling, the City council administration wanted the publicity to have something to shout for, to put a positive slant on these long awaited works, regardless. Now we can see that it was all talk, ex pats, veterans and all of us will have to sit and wait and seee what our local crooks feel able to come up with next.   Question is, will the work really start before Christams and can we have a flutter on the start date? nevermind        Report

Carter is still contemplating whether to do the work for free, I presume/dream/. On the fat chance it ever happening, I leave you with the news that the sun is shining on to the building site, but not a hard hat in sight at 9.15 am in Norwich this morning.nevermind    Report

I shall mbrew myself a cup of tea in celebration now, surely the veterans of Norwich will all be cheering them on as well. nevermind    Report

10/11/2009, 10:14 AM nevermind Joined on 28/05/2007 Posts 3,173 Re: The crooks have started I have seen the slow progress yesterday, all four of the workmen were there and later on someone with a red hat apparered and cheered them all up, it seemed to have been an invitation to a break as everything stopped and more jokes and gesticulating folowed. Its nice to see these four/4 men are all happy and busy at moving one stone at the time, 'oh how heavy these stone's were, can't tell you how we sweated buckets' etc. Progress is so slow that it almost looks like they are doing it for nothing, oops those pigs just went by again. nevermind    Report
