Re: Prince Of Wales Road
Perhaps- but what about acting their age? Just as bad  as  18 or 19 year olds getting out of their skulls because they are inexperienced drinkers are the 30/40 somethings acting like kids. Someone made a comment about what was the 46  year old doing clubbing- seems to me that age is no barrier to many men ( and women) acting like juveniles these days ( one of the reasons the kid does not like clubbing in certain places- too many letchy old men) .

I wonder whether other Western countries have the same problem to the same extent, or whether it's peculiar to the Brits?

Shut down all the clubs and bring back proper pub opening hours, introduce a

three day prison sentence for being drunk and disordely along with a couple of

hundred pounds mandatory fine, job done.

Re: Prince Of Wales Road
I have sent an email to the Prince of Wales himself ( you can contact his staff via his official website )  pointing out the disgusting booze fuelled violence that is going on in a street bearing his name. I have suggested he contact the leader of Norwich council stating that he no longer wishes to sponsor this hell hole with his good name .
This of course means that they will have to think up an alternative name which accurately describes the splendours on offer in this thoroughfare.

The new plan after much debate is likely to see part of Prince of Wales Rd closed between the hours of 9pm to 3am, Thurs Fri, Sat.
I not sure what difference this will make, but at least there will be more room to fight.

Well as it is fast becoming referred to as the  " Anus" of Norwch  ( being polite )....I reckon if this plan goes ahead the area will become very constipated .     Dek.

Re: Prince Of Wales Road
When you have police like Chief Sup Scully who plays that sort of violence down by saying it's rare, what chance is there of policing this street properly? It is not policed well. There are too many clubs in one small area. People get hurt there every week, much of what does not get reported. A few years ago a policeman actually said to me if he was off duty he would'nt attempt to go out in Prince of Wales Rd!! That was then...it's much worse now. I too agree with the post that said they were fed up hearing Norwich is a safe city, no it's not. How many of you feel safe walking home in the dark? We are always reading in the local press people randomly getting attacked or mugged , and that is just the cases people bother to report
Another reason this behaviour is escalating is that there is no deterrent for these thugs. As far as i'm concerned if somebody is kicking a person in the head while they are on the floor..it's atempted murder and that is what they should be charged with. In reality they get a slap on the wrist and community service! Nothing will change, it never does. Mr's Scully, Foster and Attoe want to wake up to reality.

Re: Prince Of Wales Road
It is all their fault- I can't find an article archived on the EDP but I am positive that over the last 15 years it has reported that the licensing authorities and planners had objections to clubs in other parts of the city because the police wanted to concentrate places in one area for ease of policing.

And while the police were trying to keep the peace in Pince of Wales Rd.

A man suffered facial injuries after being mugged and assaulted in the city centre.

The 20-year-old victim was attacked on Tombland near the Maid's Head Hotel at about 3am on Saturday, June 13.

He was taken by ambulance to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

Re: Prince Of Wales Road
Hmm Tombland not being a million miles from Prince of Wales Road and the site of pubs for a very long time and dance halls since the forties ( or so my mum tells me).
So what is the answer? If the clubs can't turn out customers in a fit state to go safely home should we demand they are closed and the licences withdrawn? Nothing new about fighting outside pubs - Griff Rhyss Jones discovered on TV WDYTYA that his great grandfather had been killed in a drunken street brawl.
Should the planners and magistrates conclude that there are too many clubs in one place? Planning law is tricky you can't usually stop a business opening because one of the same types already exists in the location-there has to be another reason.
Or should the Police Authority be able to charge clubs and pubs a fee for the extra policing needed? Is there a precedent for charging for police attendance over and above normal levels ?
Personally, and  I know this makes me sound a right old fogey-  I think the hours the clubs are open are too long.

Re: Prince Of Wales Road
Civilian 'street marshalls' have been launched in King's Lynn town centre to help keep peace on the streets during the busy night-time period.

The security guards provide additional high visibility patrols and help promote a safe journey for pub and club-goers between venues, food outlets and taxi ranks as they leave the town.

Street marshalls are trained security officers who offer a link direct from the street to police and local venues.
They have been funded for a trial three-month period by Norfolk Constabulary and the Borough Council of King's Lynn and West Norfolk as an additional measure to keep the town safe and trouble-free for residents and visitors alike.
In this the answer, with the police overstretched, and no one seemingly having any idea what to do,the only other thing I would do is make the clubs help to fund it. after all they are exploiting youngsters making vast profits and it is a better alternative to closure.
What,s the betting that this street marshals comes to the streets of Norwich in the near future. I believe there has been a couple of marshals looking after taxi ranks, but as usual funding problems. I am all for it, if it stops one fight one death it can only be good.
Make Norwich streets safe.

Re: Prince Of Wales Road
A good idea so long as they are all properly trained and have passed all the vetting procedures expected.
I daresay Lynn has changed rather since the days when the Whiskey A Go Go and the Maids Head were the hot spots for an evening
