BBC on the Button with F1

Another Formula One season finished Sunday.
Congratulations must go the Ross Brawn and his team 'Brawn-GP' for turning the defunct Honda team into world champions and to Jenson Button on becoming World Drivers Champion.
Also well done the BBC. They produced an excellent coverage of the sport. Especially the Red Button coverage for the enthusiasts covering not only qualifying but practice events to. The interactive coverage of the race plus plenty of reruns for those who didn't manage to see these live was an added bonus.
Almost worth the licence fee alone.
Sad to read that Tom Wheatcroft the owner of Donning Park died a couple of days ago.
It's also such a shame that while countries like The UEA are building venues such as the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, in the UK a few million to develop Donning Park could not be raised.

Very true CC, but let's not forget that Abu Dhabi has something in abundance that the UK does not. Money.
We are, after all, talking about the country that bailed out Dubai recently.
We couldn't bail out a leaking rowing boat at the moment.

That Oirish chap who does the pre-race chat . Jordan ? Is that his own hair ? And Ecclestone , i have my doubts about his mop. I would like this cleared up before the next season starts. Surely the Acle Straight was made for Formula 1 , turn Asda at Gt. Yarmouth into the pits. And yes we know it is already.

UEA will be tickled pink - or light blue, anyway - to learn of their upgrade in status to a full-blown nation state... all they did was to set up a 'branch' in London! Crikey
On the other side of the equation, however, as you probably know all too well Peter R. Farman UAE will be underwhelmed at being downsized to a 'remote' provincial red-brick university
jihad has been declared, and fatwas issued, for far less...

The BBC's coverage of F1 might be great, but what about the many other motorsport series? When the BBC got the rights to show F1 they also got the rights to show GP2, (pretty much akowledged as the feeder series for F1 drivers), but shows nothing on free to air channels. At least ITV put it on ITV4. And what about a bit more motorsport coverage in the local BBC news. Norfolk has a great motorsport tradition. 2 of the 13 GP2 teams are based here, one of which has won the Championship and had drivers move onto F1 and the other team is hardly what you'd call a back marker having finished 3rd in the GP2 championship this year. Norfolk has 2 of the World Series teams based, both teams have won that champioship in recent years. There is the Historic Lotus team based at Hethel, Van Diemen is still making Formula Ford cars in Norfolk and they have their works team and there are other small teams working out of units all over the place and loads of small company's supporting them. But if you watch Look East or read the EDP you would hardly know anything about them, my nephews local rugby club gets more coverage than these race teams who work all over the World.
