Modern Life Skills

One of the modern life skills that elderly people seem to be lacking is the common sense to trust no one.

From the phoning to ask for bank details, the pishing emails and the simple "we tried to deliver a parcel " scam everyone has to think more than twice about non face to face fraud, and those who grew up in more trusting times are more vulnerable.
Perhaps we need more public education ads on TV
One of the things that puzzles me is why BT plays along in the phone scams. In the case of the parcel delivery the householder is asked to call a number which is abroad apparently or at least gives the scammer a percentage of the call fee. ( just like GPs and hospitals...) If they have been informed this is being used illicitly can't they stop it?
