Re: Fletcher and son Hall Road
Hello there BD. I just happened tosee your message re Fletchers printers from years ago. My younger brother was apprentised ther at the Castle Meadow site then for a while he was at Hall Road. before moving on to Page Bros Norwich. Then on into the Union side of things.  At Fletchers he was in his young days known as Porky ( I think!)  His name is Brian Holmes ?   I know he was unpopular with some folk during his Union times...but who ever is in a job like that.  Can you remember him ?  He is still getting around although he has been in the wars a bit health wise.i,e pacemaker etc.  Lets know if he is remembered and I will pass on the news. All the best . Dek.

Hello Dek,sorry I only just noticed your reply to my post.It had been up so long I thought it would never get an answer.
I can remember Brian Holmes, not well but I think he left shortly aftre I started as an apprentice.
I'm sure he worked in a different department and woe betide any apprentice caught where he shouldn't be in those days. The boss I remember was a Charlie Birchall who only came down onto the shop floor at Christmas,he'd wobble about, full of whisky wishing everyone "Happy Christmas" without having the faintest idea of who they were or how long they'd been working there.
