Hello
Would anyone be able to visit the Norfolk Records Office for me. I live too far south to visit.
Part of the information I would like is to be found in the Graves Book. It lists the owners of the grave.
Also would it be possible to find out the permanent address in Norwich of where the deceased lived at time of death and also his wife's name, which should be Mary Ann (nee Howe). I believe that Francis Allen** may have died whilst working away from home so the informant was a neighbour not his wife. She was still alive on the 1881 Census at 4 St Andrews Hill, Norwich.
These are the grave details, which someone kindly sent me some time ago and I have been trying ever since to confirm Francis** is my great grandfather.
Grave Ref: 2-3/480 Rosary Cemetery, Norwich
The grave of Mary Allen (nee Brewster) (no dates, I have a birth cert for a Francis where mother's maiden name is Brewster)
Mary her daughter b:15 March 1864 d:24 Aug 1868
Joseph King b: 5 Nov 1846 d: 3 Oct 1868 (not sure who is was)
**Francis Allen b: 29 May 1842 d:10 Sept 1875 (the only death cert I found which appears to be him was in 14 Tyndean Square, Yarmouth where he died of pneumonia after 14 days illness. He was a Engine Fitter on the Railway possibly the Eastern Central so he could have been working away from home).
John Francis Allen b: 12 Sept 1815 d: 25 Jan 1877 (this I believe is Francis's father)
Not being able to confirm Mary & John as his parents is causing the problem. If only I could tie Francis** in with them I can proceed with my searches.
I know it is a lot to ask of you, but it would be very appreciated. If it turns out to be my family grave, then perhaps next summer I will try and get to Norwich.
Hoping someone can help me.
Thanks Pat

Hello Pat,
This is the entry for grave D2-3/480 in the Rosary Cemetery taken from the printed book, published by the Norfolk Genealogical Society in 1986 now the NFHS. This book can be obtained from the Norfolk Family History Society, based in Norwich - do a google etc, transcribed by P.E. Hamlin. All in the one grave.
Grave D2-3/480
The grave of M. Mary ALLEN.
Mary her dtr b March 15, 1864. died 24, Aug 1868.
Joseph KING, b. 5 Nov 1846, died Oct 3, 1868
Francis ALLEN, b 29 May 1842, died 10 Sept 1875.
John Francis ALLEN, b 12 Sept 1815 died 25 Jan 1877.
The only Joseph KING born in 1846 was this one on the census for 1851 fonr ny the LDS church. A cd available from the LDS church very inexpensive.

And this looks like the entry for your Francis ALLEN. aged fits at least.

Hope this helps. The father of this Francis born c 1842 could be the right one, and he just dropped the John as his first name. That was done very often.
