04/10/2009, 3:06 PM nevermind Joined on 28/05/2007 Posts 3,173 The crooks have started Finally, recently investigated and fined  Norwich firm Carter, have started with moving their boxes in place to restore and re design the War memorial. Going by their past practises we can expect the bill to rise. Just as past public contracts have been overvalued, for how long Carter dare not comments on, this one will guarantee that we keep them in good fettle through the recession. Their fine was too low and they should have done this job FOR FREE, to say sorry to Norwich and Norfolks taxpayers.   All firms who were investigated for defrauding taxpayers and private clients by overvalueing and conspiring to defraud are not barred from bidding for public contracts, they are essential to the fabric of the nation. Pirates? nevermind    Report

This bid rigging has been going on for years. Actually proving it is difficult. But when you look at the extortionate prices that have been charged for various jobs over the years especially where local authorities are concerned, it is pretty obvious what is going on. The recent court cases in which firms like Carter’s were given what amounts to tiny fines is only the very tip of a very large iceberg, which will remain mostly submerged.    Report

This issue has no political tag on, I can assure you MKT, far from one political party having a monopoly on sleaze, this stealth steal from the taxpayers has been going on under the auspice of the three main parties, as the BBC always says so proudly when it comes to their 'exemplary' presentation of british politics. nevermind      Report

The apparent openess is tinged with apprehensive obstructive rigmarole, these records should be available online. A hundred years ago they did not have the Simon Snorkels of today and I wonder whether Carter is already making a meal of it. I will be watching this work closely and wonder whether a 'works monitor, counting people and woirk activities, would lighten up our life's on here. Looking at their past fraudulent history, the City council should be aware of crooks in the inner City and train their many CCTV camera's on them at all times, especially those who have defrauded taxpayers by the million. HAWKS MEMORIAL WATCH has been born, membership is free and so are what you report and when. Work is supposedly starting on Thirsday now, but we will see.   Another option would be to start it ourselves, show them that the large stone bowls on site do not need a massive 60 ton crane and can be moved with a 2 ton pallet truck and lifted by a simple hydraulic ramp on to the back of a truck. what do you say? nevermind    Report
