Almost there
So, where were we? Ah yes! We had made an offer on the house and then waited a few days for the estate agent to relay the details to the owner and discuss the matter with her. She, obviously, then had to have a good, long think about the offer which, due to the current market climate, was lower than the asking price.
About five days later, we met up with the agent who told us that our offer had been accepted. We have since exchanged contracts and are looking to move on 7th November. Somehow, it still seems quite unreal and I´m wondering if any minute now I´ll wake up to discover that I´ve simply dreamt it all. Maybe it hasn´t sunk in yet because the bubbly we bought to toast farewell to a semi-nomadic lifestyle and say hello again to home-ownership is still in the fridge – untouched. Ian hasn´t been feeling very well since last Wednesday and we have a horrible feeling it might be another bout of shingles which he last had about 10 years ago. Although it is apparently rare to suffer from it more than once, it is nevertheless possible. He´s got a doctor´s appointment tomorrow, so until then we can only hope it´s some nasty bug he´s caught.
So, after thirteen months of trials and tribulations, it seems as if we´re almost there and if it´s a bit disappointing that we haven´t yet celebrated in style, still, I´m sure we´ll get round to it once we´re settled in our new home and when Ian is feeling better again.
We have arranged for our furniture and various other belongings, currently still in a friend´s barn in Norfolk (thanks so much David and Viv for letting us store our gear at your place, not sure what we would have done without you) to be shipped out to Spain and we should finally be reunited with our worldly goods on 11th November, provided all goes well. (A big, early thank you to Pat and Sue for overseeing the collection at the Norfolk end and therefore saving us having to make a special trip to the UK.) It´ll be like Christmas when we unpack our boxes, as over the past year we have more or less forgotten what exactly is lurking inside.
