Reclaiming the land
This is the view of Clive Doarks, Conservation Officer for the Broads at English Nature. The RSPB has a strategy to acquire land to restore vulnerable habitat sites, especially freshwater sites at risk from sea inundation. This is in progress at Lakenheath Fen, where a carrot field has been flooded, and reedbeds recreated. Jon Haw, Regional Reserves Manager for the RSPB explained: "Reserves supporting bitterns are in danger of sea level rise, and we need to ensure that we create banks away from this risk."
