Former Norwich City winger Przemyslaw Placheta has been released by Swansea less than four months after moving to South Wales.

Placheta joined the Swans on a free transfer in January with six months left on his contract at Carrow Road, hoping to earn an extension to his initial short-term deal.

The 26-year-old hasn’t impressed head coach Luke Williams enough to prolong his stay at the club, however, and will be on the hunt for a new one this summer.

His spell at Swansea started promisingly, but injury ended his campaign early and he missed out on a reunion with the Canaries last month.

A statement from Swansea said: "Liam Walsh and Przemyslaw Placheta will leave the club when their contracts expire this summer.

"Walsh made 34 appearances and scored two goals for the club. Placheta, meanwhile, played 10 times after signing a short-term deal at the end of the January transfer window.

"Everyone at Swansea City wishes all departing players every success in their future careers."

Former Norwich loanee Kyle Naughton has extended his stay by another year despite his own fitness struggles this season, with Williams a fan of the 35-year-old.

Placheta expressed his desire to stay at Swansea earlier this year, but has come up short in his attempts.

"Yes - why not? I am really enjoying the first few weeks under the new gaffer and with new team-mates. We will see," he said when asked if he'd like to remain there.

"When I came here I saw big potential in this team and I enjoy what the gaffer expects from us."

Williams was coy on his own position, with Placheta's injury record clearly playing a key role in the decision to let him go.

"It’ll be a discussion around the table with all the people involved," he told the BBC.

“Let’s get some more information what’s going on with the hamstring, see if we can get him back before the end of the season, if not let’s take it all into consideration and see how we feel."

Norwich are expected to confirm their own retained list in the coming days, after a summer of change began with head coach David Wagner's sacking.
