Daniel Farke is expecting key players to return to training this week as his Leeds United side prepare to face Norwich City in the play-off semi-finals.

The Whites limped over the Championship regular season finish line with a 2-1 defeat to Southampton, having won just one of their final six games of the campaign.

Farke's options are set to be boosted by the return of multiple key players, however, including former Canaries loanee Patrick Bamford.

“Hopefully there's a chance Patrick Bamford and Daniel James will return to the group," he said. "We desperately need these types of players who, especially Patrick in the second half of the season, played a crucial role, Daniel James over the whole season.

“We need this week in order to work on the training pitch because we have a really young side and some of my young players have lost a bit of their momentum, their confidence. You could sense this in the game (against Southampton).

“It's important to have a bit of time to prepare, to give them good moments on the training pitch, to get their confidence back, get their rhythm back, their momentum, because there will be tough games upcoming.

"We need to be at our best and [in] our prime in order to give ourselves a chance to go to the final and to reward ourselves in three weeks' time with the best possible prize you can have in a Championship season. This prize is a promotion to the Premier League."

Right-back Connor Roberts, who helped Burnley to promotion last season, could also be involved at Carrow Road after making his return from injury as a substitute on Saturday.

"[A full week of training] will be beneficial for a player like Connor Roberts," Farke continued. "For example, [before the Saints loss] he had just one training session.

"I was happy I was able to give him at least 10 or 15 minutes back on the pitch. [It will be] beneficial for him."
