Wes Hoolahan and Grant Holt link up in memory of Joe Dix

Wes Hoolahan and Grant Holt once again played side by side in canary yellow in a special event organised by the Joe Dix Foundation.

Mr Dix was just 18 when he was stabbed to death by Hans Beeharry, Benjamin Gil and Cameron Palmer, all 19, in Vale Green, Mile Cross in January 2022.

Following his death, his doting parents Phil and Emma Dix set up a charity in his name to raise awareness of the dangers of knife violence and gang crime in Norfolk.

The charity hosted one of its first major events over the May bank holiday - a football tournament at Wroxham FC which included former Canaries, friends of Joe and members of the emergency services.

Also among the ex-Canaries were goalkeeper Declan Rudd and midfielder Mike Milligan, along with former youth player Joe Duffy, who helped organise the event.

Duffy, 18, said: "I knew Joe really well and wanted to help do something to make him proud.

"Joe would have loved to been playing too."

Hoolahan, who played more than 350 times in his City career, said: "What happened to Joe was incredibly sad, so we were all keen to get involved in this game to honour his memory and help out."

The event saw hundreds of people enjoy an afternoon of football, sunshine and fun for the entire family.

Mr Dix said the day was particularly emotional for him.

He said: "I think Joe probably would have hated this all being about him, but on the other side I think it would have been a big honour for him.

"It has been an emotional day but this is all about raising awareness of dangers and if people hear that message while having a nice afternoon out that it is all the better."
