A driver has been jailed for causing a horrific crash that saw him plough into another vehicle after ignoring red lights.
Steven Codona, 30, managed to get out of the wreckage of his Nissan but fled without calling for help.
A man in his 60s was hospitalised with serious injuries following the crash at a junction in Wisbech in May 2022.
He underwent surgery to repair an open fracture to his ankle and received treatment for injuries to his collarbone, pelvis, sternum, ribs and lungs.
Codona, of Stow Road in Wisbech, admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
He was jailed for two-and-a-half years and disqualified from driving for six years and three months at Peterborough Crown Court.
PC Andy Holliday, who investigated the crash, said: “Codona showed absolutely no consideration for the safety of others as he blatantly ignored a red light - with serious consequences.
“The victim suffered significant injuries and required a long stay in hospital with considerable rehabilitation.
“I’m pleased he has faced justice for his dangerous actions that caused such distress to an innocent man.”
Shocking CCTV footage of the crash released after he was sentenced captures the moment Codona’s Nissan Terrano smashes head-on into a Peugeot 307 that was turning right at the junction of Churchill Road and Falcon Road.
The car repeatedly spins around while the Nissan flips onto its roof ending up on a grass verge.
Codona can be seen clambering out and running off leaving the injured Peugeot driver still inside his wrecked vehicle.
He was arrested a short time after the crash.
